The Rose Garden and the adjoining quiet gardens make an excellent place to play with the children or enjoy some tummy time with the really little ones. There are no dogs allowed in this area. There are two playgrounds based on age, an environmental trail which makes a nice walk and area of exploration, a family-friendy café, as well as buildings for hire, gym, courses, track, tennis courts and open space.

Violet Hill Gardens
Just up the hill towards St John’s Wood. Nice playground and picnic area. Can get busy after school.

Rembrandt Gardens
Down by the canal, a nice place to relax. Not many other children and no playground.

Queens Park
Wonderful park nearby that has a fun playground with paddling pool, great child-friendly café, animal petting corner, and concerts in the summer!

Tamplin Mews
Between Warlock Road and Chippenham Road – this open space has a playground too – with 4 swings, a slide, roundabout and plenty of room to run!

Regents Park
Be sure to check out the summer jazz festival there put on by the 606 Club!  And the roses in mid-June are a must-see.

Hampstead Heath
Amazing with a great events program. Take the 46 bus right there.

Diana Princess of Wales Playground in Kensington Gardens
Parking is free on Sundays near this playground. You can also take the number 31 or 46 bus nearby and walk. Really an excellent spot with a café.

Kilburn Grange
“Would just like to mention a park which we stumbled across today, called Kilburn Grange. It is just off Kilburn High Road, the most unlikely place I ever thought a park to be but after today I am going again for sure! It is simply wonderful! Nice sized playground for the little ones (very small slide great for crawlers like my little one), 2 baby swings, beautiful well-kept gardens, lots of grass space, tennis and basketball courts. It also has a huge adventure playground which dissapointingly is for 8-14 year olds, and yet it looks so brilliant, I feel it should be for our little ones too!!! My husband says he visited the park a few years back and it was nothing like it is today, so i think it has recently been re-done.”
Thanks to MVM Michelle for sharing this great find.

  1. If the weather ever warms up again like it was at Easter, there is a fantastic splash pad in a public playground called Kensington Memorial park, not far from the Sainsbury’s Ladbroke Grove . Highly recommended! http://www.esi.info/detail.cfm//Ustigate-Ltd/Splashpad-Kensington-Memorial-Park/_/R-201.1338

Hi there, I used to live in Maida Vale and that is how I know about this site. Your home page mentions that you organise Greek play groups, and I was wondering if you could put me in contact with the organisers. I now live in Hampstead, but I haven’t found any Greek play groups around here, so I am willing to come to Maida Vale so that my 3 year old can play with other Greek speaking children. Can you help? Many thanks!

  3. Thanks for the tip about Kilburn Grange – seems like a real find.
