Fun new children’s boutique and creative studio in W9

by Dawn on July 16, 2011

Have you ever been to those stores that have signs reminding you to watch your child making you feel like you probably shouldn’t have brought them in the first place? Well this store is a polar opposite. Not only can you bring your child, but they have not one, but two rooms dedicated to keeping little minds busy.

Izzy Jones Children's Boutique and Creative StudioWe welcome Izzy Jones Children’s Boutique and Creative Studio to W9. I think we’re going to enjoy having them as a neighbour.

When you walk in, you enter a fun world of funky, fashionable clothes and toys by great companies like Melissa & Doug, and then you’re immediately drawn to the studio rooms which lead on to a sun-drenched garden area.

I’m very excited to take my budding artist to paint some canvases and I have my eye on a crown bank. She so loves to post coins (she calls them treasure).

Izzy Jones artworkLucy, the store’s owner, has a niece (the store’s namesake) just one day younger than my daughter and her work is on display in one of the studios. Really inspiring stuff. She used foam pieces, feathers, and lots of paint. Purchase a blank canvas (or paper maché or wooden object) from the shop floor. Then for a studio fee of £6, which includes the aforementioned decorative items as well as others like sequins and pompoms, your mini Matisse can start creating.

Items for drop-in sessionsThis drop-in activity is available any time and the only limits are your child’s imagination (so it’s pretty limitless).

If you’re looking for something more structured, starting Tuesday the 26th of July at 3pm for six weeks, they will be offering creative sessions for 18 months – 3 year olds. This hour long class begins with a story to set the brief and is then followed by an actual artistic activity. Classes: £12.

Large studio roomIf your child is more Hendrix than Matisse, try Music Maestros, a six-week course starting Wednesday the 27th of July. There will be a baby session (6-18mths) at 9.30-10.30am, toddler session (18mths-3yrs) at 11am-12noon, and pre-school session (3yrs-5yrs) at 2-3pm. Classes: £10.

Sign up for the whole course for either of these classes and receive 10% off.

There are also some pretty amazing sounding summer holiday workshops for 5 – 11 year olds from the 26th of July to the 4th of September at 10.30am-12noon.

This looks great! I have been wanting to visit (a friend told me about Izzy Jones last weekend) and now I’m even more excited to go. Sounds like a great concept.
