After the post about the Notting Hill Harbour Club, I thought it would be interesting to write about another gym with a crèche that some Maida Vale mums use. A friend and I went to look at the Virgin Active Healthclub Notting Hill on Lancaster Road. It’s a large, modern gym with plenty of facilities. They have a 20m pool, a good-sized gym area that includes a ladies-only section, spacious rooms for classes, a pleasant cafe with internet access and free Wi-Fi and a spa that offers various beauty treatments as well as the use of sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. The changing rooms are a good size, looked clean and you’re given two complimentary towels each visit.
The crèche is divided into three sections for three different age-groups: 6 months-2 years, 2-3 years and 3-8 years. There seemed to be plenty of toys and fun things for them to play with. The staff seemed friendly and attentive. Membership for the crèche is £5 a month and then you pay by the hour for under-3s with a maximum stay of 4 hours. As they are registered to take care of a maximum of 20 children, you need to book a place for your child in advance.
Mums who are at home during the day can benefit from the gym’s off-peak membership prices, from £67 a month. There’s no need to sign up for a year’s contract either, you can stop any time you want. You can also freeze your membership if you know you’ll be away for a few weeks for a charge of £10, meaning you then don’t pay and waste that month’s fee.
Do you go to this gym / use the pool / leave your child in the crèche? How do you like it? Are there other gyms with childcare facilities that any of you use and would recommend?
