Ever wonder why your child won’t let you wash their hair, why they bite, refuse to share their toys or simply how much they should eat…
The Babiesknow Parent Groups at the Randolph Surgery might just have all the answers.
These groups are held free of charge for ALL Maida Vale residents whether registered or not. Run by Helen Biscoe-Taylor, they are held every Thursday from 3-4.30pm for under 2′s.
I had been meaning to get to this group for months now and often joked that I didn’t have the support to get to the support group. I’m so glad I finally made it. I wound up being the only person there so had a private session. Imagine having someone listen to you for an hour and a half. It was pure bliss. I left feeling as refreshed as if I had a massage.
Earlier that day, I had almost lost the plot because after weeks of trying to get my daughter over her new found disdain of swimming and having her hair washed, she acted up at swimming and just would not do what the teacher wanted, nor would she get out of the pool. I didn’t know what to do. They assured me at swimming that children go through phases but this was too much and I couldn’t help but think I was creating a water phobia for my child rather than helping her to enjoy being in the water.
So that was my motivation. (It also helped that I had no work deadlines that day and it was rainy.) Once there, Helen offered suggestions to deal with this and I have a daughter who now not only lets me wash her hair, but won’t get out of the bath because she is having so much fun. She still won’t do submersions at swimming but she’s enjoying the class and that’s the important thing.
Since I was the only one there, I just offloaded all my problems and questions and received some very useful advice.
All this while my daughter played in the little house in the waiting room and ran around letting off steam. Helen showed a genuine interest in her and she loved performing for her new fan.
I couldn’t recommend this great free service enough. Even if the advice doesn’t work, it’s nice to be able to talk to someone and get ideas from a fresh perspective.
They also run a group for expectant parents.
Let us know what you think if you’ve been to either of these groups.

Hi everyone,
I completely agree with Dawn word to word on this….I have been attending this for quite some time now.Actually,it was Helen who told me about the MVM group..She is a very warm lady who listens to you carefully and mostly gives valuable advice..Many a times,I have been alone with her and those days I felt as if I was talking to a great friend.Very nice to attend
